DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT

South America. They inhabit rainforests, primary forests mainly around water areas, glades and wetlands.

BEHAVIOUR

They are active during the day. Female and juveniles are active all year around, in search of food. Male are generally more active in the wet months,
when they are looking for a partner.

DIET

Their diet consists mainly of fruits, flowers, grasses, leaves, vines, roots, bark, mushrooms, insects, snails, worms and carrion.

REPRODUCTION

Laying 4 to 8 eggs, incubation lasts 128 to 152 days. The young are self-sufficient from birth.

GOOD TO KNOW

Males communicate with each other through head movements, in females this way of communication is not observed.
