DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
It lives in forests, savannas, shrublands, grasslands, marine tidal zones in Indonesia.
A bird of daily activity, very social. It is a sedentary bird. Usually it lives in groups of about 100 individuals. During the breeding season, the groups are
smaller – about 50 individuals.
Feeds mostly on seeds, sometimes fruits. During the breeding season, the diet consists primarily of insects.
Zebra finches are monogamous and pair for life. Breeding depends on the appearance of rain. The nest is made of grass and feathers. The female lays 4-6 eggs. The young leave the nest after 3 weeks, and after another 2 they are independent.
