DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
Australia, Tasmania. Eucalyptus forests near open spaces, coastal, hilly areas with shrubs.
BEHAVIOUR
Most active at dusk and at night. During the day wallaby rests in the bushes. Usually lives alone, when feeding, it often forms groups of 30 individuals.
DIET
Wallaby mainly feeds on leaves, grass and herbs. In the dry season, it eats juicy roots.
REPRODUCTION
The female reaches sexual maturity at the age of 13 months, and the male at the age of 20 months. After 30 days of pregnancy, the female gives birth to one young, weighing 1 g, which independently goes to the mother’s bag. During the first six months of life, the young increase their weight two thousand times. Lifespan: up to 18 years.

The scientific name of the kangaroo family Macropodidae in Latin means “bigfoot”.
