DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
The southern ends of Europe, Asia and northern Africa, lives in stony or grassy coastal areas.
BEHAVIOUR
Lead a daily lifestyle, they like sunny areas.
DIET
Grasses, herbs, shoots of shrubs.
REPRODUCTION
The mating takes place after waking up from hibernation. The female lays 4 to 7 eggs in the burrows dug under the bushes.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common Tortoise is the largest terrestrial turtle in Europe. It can reach 35 cm in length and weigh up to 6 kg. Life expectancy: average 21 years. Has characteristics spurs on the back legs.
