Baringo Giraffe
Mammals: Africa

Baringo Giraffe

Baringo Giraffe An adult male giraffe can reach a height of over
5m. As in almost all mammals, the neck of this extremely tall animal is
composed of seven vertebrae but in case of the giraffe, they are almost
30cm long! A long neck allows the animal to eat food that other residents
of the savannah could never reach, like leaves on the very top of
trees. In the wild, a giraffe’s favorite delicacy is the leaves of the Acacia
tree. A giraffe moves by pacing: each step it takes, it raises two legs on
the same side of its body. This particular way of walking allows them
to take big steps, which eases the strain on their muscles and prevents
them from tripping over their own long legs.
